The Association of Media Photographers of Trinidad and Tobago began with a meeting in June 2001, at which a majority of photographers working with various media houses in Trinidad and Tobago decided to form a representative association.
It was launched on April 18, 2002 as a non-profit organisation and is not affiliated with any other organisations.
The Association's stated aims are...
- To assist Press photographers, non-media photographers and videographers to become more efficient, skilled and creative in their craft by attaining greater technical competence.
- To give all possible assistance in the training of photography in the fields of photojournalism, general principles of photography and video.
- To ensure that press photographers function in the public interest without fear of illegal interference or physical attack.
- To make every effort to open public doors now closed to the public camera.
- To establish an employment clearing house for the benefit of publishers and photographers.
- To assist members in developing equality in the profession through education, scholarships and training.
- To host activities such as photo competitions, exhibitions, tours and fundraising efforts.

Since its inception, AMPOTT has been successful at achieving some of these goals. We encourage you to participate in our efforts to improve the work and working lifes of photographers in Trinidad and Tobago.
